Tracksmith founder and CEO Matt Taylor sat down with Blamo! Podcast's Jeremy Kirkland for a conversation about growing up in Pittsburgh, the running lifestyle and building a brand based on his passion. A few highlights and the link to listen, below.
J.K.: “Could there really just be a brand about running?” M.T. “There’s a core runner who is invested in the sport and the process and the history and the culture. That was the opening: huge market, huge brands, but none of them are talking to this customer anymore and really building products or designing experiences with that customer in mind. We had the opportunity to stick to that.”
J.K.: “Do you think your guys will go deeper into 'off the track' or lifestyle pieces?” M.T. “The word lifestyle can mean so many different things. Lifestyle to me, is the lifestyle of the runner. What does a runner need?”
J.K.: “For me, my goal was always just to be faster.” M.T. “I feel like part of your connection to Tracksmith comes from that desire. It’s that you’ve made this commitment. ‘I want to get faster.’ It doesn’t matter how fast or how far you run, to us it’s more that psychographic of ‘Running is important to me and my identity and I’m going to commit some of my time to it to get faster.’ And if that describes you, then that’s someone who we want to engage with as a brand.”
