Legacy of Speed

The athletes of Speed City wore their team-issued gear with pride. Inspired by the navy and gold track suits they wore in archival team photos, these sweatpants combine Speed City flair with easy-fitting comfort. The elasticated waistband and hems add to the classic styling and they’re finished with our Tracksmith x Puma insignia.

These fleece track pants feature an elastic waistband with adjustable internal drawcord allows for an ideal, personalized fit. Side seam zip pockets offer secure storage.

The pants feature a classic racing stripe down the leg and zippers at the ankle for easy on and off.

The track pants are finished with Puma x Tracksmith co-branding, showcasing the Eliot Hare and Puma big cat.

Tracksmith x Puma

Together Tracksmith and Puma celebrate the legacy of Speed City, the dominant California men’s collegiate running program of the mid-20th century, whose athletes not only set global standards for performance but also fought for social justice through the Olympic Project for Human Rights and the 1968 Mexico City protest. It’s a culture of courage that lives on today.

Five percent of all Speed City Collection sales on Tracksmith.com will go to benefit the work of the Tracksmith Foundation to protect and create opportunities for youth in track and field.

From the Archives

Speed City was known for making statements on the track, paving the way for today's sprinting stars. At practice, on race day and around campus, they brought a signature style to classic activewear styles.

An Oral History

There are some stories that demand to be told in full. Tracksmith's first-ever podcast is a collaboration with Revisionist History’s Malcolm Gladwell, entitled Legacy of Speed. It tells the tale of Speed City from its origins to its impact.
