If one thing is evident of Phillips’ long-standing relationship with running after spending a day with the musician, it’s that its importance runs much deeper than physical wellbeing — it’s a necessity, a way of seeing the wood for the trees, as he puts it.
Despite the surge in popularity of Major Marathons these days, cross country remains hard to beat. There is no form of competition more pure, and there is no discipline that brings people together quite like spiking up alongside your teammates and running yourselves ragged over uneven terrain.
For parents Charlotte and Peter Rizzo, family gatherings involve making memories by the mile. In years past, this meant Turkey Trots and local races. Nowadays, it means the return to one of their favorite routes, followed by treats from two of their beloved post-run pit stops: iced coffee from Coffee Labs in Sleepy Hollow and cream cheese slathered bagels from Park Place Bagels back in Bronxville.
Strata Collection: Spring '25 There is nothing better than the feeling of going full throttle. Each soaring step ramps up the pace, fueling your push toward the finish line. The spring months call for unshakable adaptability, as the afternoons begin to taunt us with warm weather and the mornings keep us tethered to the lingering chill. Like this temperamental season, the nature of running beckons for malleability, whether you’re putting in the distance as you build toward a marathon or spending time in the fieldhouse forging a foundation for improvement. Whatever the effort, in a time of change, your spring running gear should be a steadfast companion to ride out the unpredictability.

There's nothing like pre-season training camp. A summer staple for high school and college cross country teams, camp creates lifetime memories through a shared sense of purpose, sweat and suffering. It was such an impressionable experience for many of us at Tracksmith that we recreated camp in 2014 as a way to showcase the camaraderie unique to distance running.
