The Games have a rich sartorial history on and off the track. Looking at archival photos, we were in awe of how modern everyone looked a century ago – from the athletes' uniforms, to the remarkable style of the crowd, to the tailored jackets worn at the ceremony. We decided to honor that timeless tone and trailblazing spirit with the Federation Collection.
For the capstone of the collection, the Federation Blazer, we collaborated with Emilie Hawtin, fellow runner and the founder of the women’s tailoring brand Clementina, to design the unstructured silhouette, combining our inspiration from the twenties with the sophistication of a sports coat and the ease of a French chore coat. Emilie incorporated sartorial elements, creating a longer jacket with a wider lapel, double flap pockets, an extended back vent, and a custom silk label reminiscent of historic Parisian athletic cards.
When creating the utilitarian blazer, we ensured that the details are suited for an athletic life so that it can be thrown on as needed – after a run, when you’re heading to the office or rushing off to dinner. In doing so, we used an organic cotton twill to construct the piece and finished the unlined interior with sash-clad binding, crafting a comfortable, midweight jacket. Complete with a winning gold hare pin and a locker loop with our signature racing stripe, the Federation Blazer marries sophisticated and sportive elements, with a touch of Tracksmith.
After solidifying the concept, Emilie sourced the best materials and brought this to life in Rome at Le Tre Sarte, where each jacket was handmade by an expert seamstress. The sustainable, zero-waste atelier and workshop was founded by young couple Camilla Voci and Niccolo de Leonardis, who utilize deadstock fabric to create high quality and thoughtfully-made pieces, introducing the next generation to made-to-measure clothes.
Le Tre Sarte and Emilie’s brand Clementina, who’ve previously created custom suits together, worked closely in the workshop over weeks and months to experiment with various materials, silhouettes and details for our Federation Blazer. They sourced trims, buttons and fabrics around Italy and finally distilled the jacket down to an essential fit with Le Tre Sarte’s master tailor. Once this was complete, they wear tested the product of their efforts and made adjustments before the jackets were individually handmade in the Eternal City.
Having the Federation Blazer handmade in Europe by next generation tailors was pivotal – an approach that aligns with our values and the production process of decades past. Steeped in both quality and elegance, we were able to tailor a piece that is truly Tracksmith.
