New York Minute

On June 15th and 16th we celebrated the launch of our Relay Collection with a pop-up and exhibition at Ludlow Studios in New York, featuring Emily Maye's photography from the Speed Project 4.0.

While our pop-up was only open for 35 hours 59 minutes, that didn’t stop us from hosting a race. Twenty teams hit the streets for a TSP-inspired relay through Manhattan and Brooklyn. Photographer Fred Goris captured the race and after party for us.

At 8 pm twenty teams of men and women stopped traffic to line up on Ludlow Street for the first of four legs.

Leg one took runners up and over the Williamsburg Bridge to an exchange on Marcy Avenue. Then Leg two dashed off towards the Navy Yard for an exchange under the Manhattan Bridge. Out in front Brooklyn Track Club traded leads with the uniquely-named team: 'A Bunch of Random Numbers and Paul.' Despite racing on their home turf, Brooklyn Track Club took a wrong turn and team Random Numbers followed. Still, both teams arrived at the second exchange ahead of the rest of the field.

Like The Speed Project, much of the fun of unsanctioned racing is getting to race in unexpected locations. Crossing the Brooklyn Bridge offered incredible views and the chance to dash around unsuspecting tourists. The final exchange at Chambers Street had runners sprinting a mile through the narrow streets of Chinatown and the Lower East Side.

Brooklyn Track Club took the win in 36:30 and all the teams grabbed some beers for the after-party. Speed Project founder Nils Arend shared his story and teased TSP 5.0, before the top three teams showered themselves in their well-earned winner's prosecco. New York, you sure know how to go fast and have fun.
